Luxating Instruments and Root Elevators are different instruments designed for different purposes.

• Luxating Instruments feature thinner and sharper blades than traditional elevators.
• They are specifically designed to sever periodontal ligament fibers and facilitate atraumatic tooth removal.
• Luxators should be used with a gentle circular cutting motion while seated deeply within the periodontal ligament space.
• They are not designed for prying, twisting, or applying heavy torque to tooth roots.
• Using a luxator as a traditional elevator may cause blade damage, chipping, bending, or breakage.
• Clinicians who prioritize preservation of surrounding bone and soft tissue often prefer luxating instruments for atraumatic extraction techniques.
• Always select the appropriate blade size and shape according to the anatomy of the tooth being extracted.
